Dr. Ben Carson, World-Renowned Neurosurgeon, to Speak at The Peer Learning Network Luncheon
Bethany, Oklahoma, March 17, 2009
– Ben Carson, Sr., M.D. will present this year’s Gresham-Marchant
Lecture Series entitled “Healthcare and Healthy Lifestyles” in a
downtown luncheon presentation hosted by Peer Learning Network (PLN)
Presents on Thursday, April 9th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the
Cox Convention Center, Downtown Oklahoma City.
Dr. Carson is a patients' advocate - he
knows how difficult it can be for individuals to obtain the medical
information that is truly meaningful and important to them. In this
enlightening presentation, Carson gets at the hard issues surrounding
the medical field, while sharing with audiences the warm and
compassionate perspective that have made him a world-renowned surgeon.
He draws upon his knowledge of both interventional and preventive
medicines to discuss not only improvements in personal health, but
possibilities for healthcare reform that can potentially make life
better for all Americans. He also shares his own struggle with cancer
and his insights on living a balanced, healthy life.
PLN Presents is open
to the Medical and Business Community. Subject to availability, seats
are available for $40.00 each and may be reserved by registering online
at www.ziglarcenter.com/pln-presents. Space is limited.
Dr. Carson has persevered through extreme adversity and today is a full
professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery, and pediatrics at
The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and he has directed pediatric
neurosurgery at The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center for nearly a
quarter of a century. Growing up in a single parent home with dire
poverty, poor grades, a horrible temper, and low self-esteem Dr.
Carson’s dream appeared out of reach until his mother, with only a
third-grade education, challenged her sons to strive for excellence.
Among his accomplishments, Dr. Carson is most widely known for the
first separation of craniopagus (Siamese) twins joined at the back of
the head in 1987 (captured in the recent TNT movie presentation GIFTED
HANDS: THE BEN CARSON STORY). In June 2008, he was awarded the
Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bush at the White House,
which is the highest civilian honor in the land.
The appearance of Dr. Carson is made possible in part by grants from
The Peer Learning Network and The Gresham-Marchant Lecture Series.
